New car factory warranty myth

I had a customer come in a couple weeks ago very excited and says to me “finally I am beyond my factory warranty and now I can bring all of my cars here for service”. I was a little confused and asked her why she felt like she could not before. She said “I thought that if I had work done anywhere but at the dealership that it would void my factory warrant”.  This was the first time I had heard this and after doing some research I found that this somewhat a common belief. Trust me when I say that the dealership is not going to go out of their way to tell you otherwise. So let’s dig a little deeper.

The myth is that new cars must be serviced at the dealership during the factory warranty period or the warranty will be voided. Some of the more honorable and reputable dealerships will just not stop this sort of thinking, while others will misinform customers directly because the person does not understand their own warranty or just because they are dishonest.  So I will be direct and as blunt about this as I can be. A New Vehicle Does Not Need To Be Serviced Exclusively By The Dealership During Its Warranty Period To Preserve Your New Car Warranty.

The customer that I mentioned before, thinking about it afterwards made me feel terrible for them. They described a mediocre service at a fairly steep price. We could have saved hundreds of dollars for them by having the service done with us AND keeping the factory warranty completely intact. At Elite Automotive are authorized to do everything your car needs to keep it safe and on the road for far less than the dealership will charge you. We also track your cars service history with us so if there is ever a dispute and you lost your paperwork, no worries we can easily print them or email them directly to you. This is very handy in the event of a disputed warranty claim. The dealership will want proof that your car has been serviced properly and on schedule. If you use the RIGHT FLUIDS at the RIGHT TIMES, you are meeting the required, published terms of your warranty contract. When your car is serviced with us, you get the same fluids you would be getting at the dealership, at the specified time.

How do I know if I am keeping up with the maintenance schedule? This is fairly easy and can be looked over. We all know that you need to change the oil on schedule, but do you realize that the engine filter needs to be changed at a particular mileage, or the coolant needs to be flushed, or the brake lines inspected? Good news all of this will be printed in your user manual. Even better is when you get services done with us we will do the factory recommended inspections and let you know about upcoming services that will need to be done to keep your warranty valid. We will do the hard work for you.

So you may be asking yourself, do I even need to go to the dealership again? Well this is going to be easy and straight forward. You will need to go there for most warranty claims or if you get a factory recall notice. We can handle some warranty claims in house, but for the most part if you have a valid claim you would need to take your car to the dealership to have the work done for free. The catch is, if you think that you need a new part and it would be covered under the warranty, you would take it to the dealer and they would do an inspection of that part and then determine if that part is valid for a warranty claim. If not then you are on the hook for the cost of the inspection and for the repair. When getting your car serviced with us regularly, we will do an inspection of your car every time it comes in. We can inspect the parts that you have concerns for and do research for you to find out for sure if that part is covered by your existing warranty and give you a reference to the dealership. This eliminates the risk of having a large repair bill from the dealership and you have more peace of mind.

If you have any questions for us feel free to call, email, facebook us, or just stop in and we would be more than happy to answer any questions that you may have.
